Seller terms
Version 2026-10-14 · 14 October 2026
In short:
- You are the seller. Your customers buy from you, not from Halaal. Your prices, delivery, returns and terms of sale are yours.
- Refunds, returns, cancellations, complaints, disputes and chargebacks are yours to handle, under the law where you sell.
- You sell only what you may lawfully sell, and nothing on our prohibited list.
- Selling abroad: customs, duties and import taxes, and the rules of the countries you sell to, are yours.
- What you say about a product is true. Halal claims are yours, and so is their truth.
- Card payments go straight into your own Stripe account. Halaal never receives or holds your customers’ money.
- Halaal takes no fee on your sales today. If that ever changes, we tell you at least 30 days before, and you can stop taking card payments.
- We may refuse an application, and pause or close a shop that breaks these terms.
1. Who sells
When you sell through a Halaal shop, you are the seller and the merchant of record. The contract for every sale is between you and your customer. Halaal Inc LTD (registered in England and Wales, company no. 16055333) provides the software your shop runs on; it is not a party to your sales.
Shops on Halaal are for businesses, sole traders and charities selling as part of their work. You sell as a trader, and consumer law applies to your sales.
Your shop is yours to run. You set your own prices, delivery options and charges, returns policy and terms of sale, and you bring your own customers. Halaal does not set the terms on which you supply your goods; these terms only ask you to follow the law and our acceptable-use rules.
Your shop shows your legal name, address and contact details, and your company, charity and VAT numbers where you have them, because the law requires buyers to know who they are buying from. Keep them correct and up to date.
2. Your customers
You are responsible for your products, their descriptions and prices, delivery or collection, and for meeting your customers’ legal rights under the law that applies to each sale.
For consumers in the UK that includes the right to cancel an online order within 14 days of receiving the goods (Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013), except for goods the law exempts, such as perishable food, made-to-order items or sealed hygiene goods once opened; and the right to goods that are as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose (Consumer Rights Act 2015). Customers elsewhere have similar rights under their own law. Your returns policy is your own; the law lets it give customers more than these rights, never less. If you have one, show it in your shop.
Consumer law also requires that the prices you show are the full price, with any VAT and unavoidable charges included, that delivery costs are shown before the order is placed, and that reviews, ratings and testimonials are genuine. You are responsible for meeting it.
Complaints and disputes about an order are between you and your customer. Answer them promptly. We may pass on a complaint we receive about your shop.
3. Selling abroad
If you sell to customers in another country, you are responsible for customs declarations, duties, and import VAT or sales tax on the goods you send, and for telling your customers before they buy who pays them. You are also responsible for knowing and meeting the rules of each country you sell to: what may be imported, product safety and labelling, and its consumer law.
Halaal does not act as importer, seller or deemed supplier of your goods, and does not collect or pay tax on your sales. If a tax authority or a change in the law would make us responsible for tax on your sales, we may limit where your shop takes card payments or delivers, and we will tell you before we do.
4. Your duties as a business
Tax is yours: registering for and charging VAT where the law requires it, issuing VAT invoices when a customer is entitled to one, and keeping your own business records. Our order history helps, but it is not a substitute for your records: export what you need to keep.
You alone are responsible for halal claims about your products and for their truth. That includes any certificate you mention. Keep the evidence and show it if a customer, the authorities or we ask. Halaal does not certify, inspect or endorse products, and a product being in a Halaal shop does not mean we have checked it.
Your products must be safe and labelled as the law requires, including allergen information for food.
5. What you may not sell
Our acceptable-use rules. You may not use your shop to sell or offer: anything illegal where you or your customers are; alcohol, pork and their products, intoxicants and gambling; weapons; counterfeit or stolen goods; unsafe or recalled products; adult content; interest-bearing credit; anything that infringes someone else’s rights; anything your payment provider does not allow (for Stripe, its list of prohibited and restricted businesses); and anything we tell you is not allowed.
Claims that a product is halal, organic, certified or the like must be true, and you must be able to show why.
6. Payment
Halaal never receives, holds or moves your customers’ money. If you add a payment link, it must be your own account with one of the providers we accept; payments go directly to that account, under that provider’s terms.
Our acceptable-use rules exclude interest: do not use your shop to offer buy-now-pay-later, interest-bearing instalments or credit, or to charge late fees. Card payments in Halaal shops are card and wallet only.
7. Card payments through Stripe
To take card payments in your shop, you connect your own Stripe account. That account is between you and Stripe, under Stripe’s Services Agreement and its Connected Account Agreement, which you accept with Stripe when you set it up. Stripe checks who you are, takes each payment, pays it out to you and charges you its own fees.
Each payment is a charge on your Stripe account. You are the merchant of record, and your business name is the one on your customer’s statement. Card details go straight to Stripe; we never see them. Halaal provides software only: we are not your payment provider and we never receive, hold or move the money.
By connecting your account, you allow Halaal to act on it to run your shop, and for nothing else: to create the payment page for an order, at the order’s total, with your customer’s email filled in; to close that page when the order is cancelled or lapses; to read the status of payments, refunds and disputes, so your orders stay right; to issue the refunds you ask for from your Halaal dashboard; and to refund a payment in full, automatically, when it reaches an order that has already lapsed or been cancelled, because a customer must never pay for an order that no longer stands.
So that the same item is not sold twice, the software holds the items of an order waiting for card payment for 24 hours. If it is not paid by then, it lapses: nothing is charged, the items go back on sale and we tell your customer.
You can disconnect Stripe at any time from your shop’s settings. Orders already paid stay yours to fulfil or refund, and Stripe keeps your account and its history.
8. Refunds, disputes and chargebacks
Refunds are yours to decide and to make, from your Halaal dashboard or from Stripe. A refund comes out of your Stripe balance.
If a customer disputes a payment with their bank, the dispute is between you, your customer and Stripe. You respond to it through Stripe, and any amount lost and any dispute fee is yours under your agreement with Stripe. We show the dispute on the order, to you and to your customer, and we take no part in deciding it. Halaal is not liable for refunds, disputes, chargebacks or a negative Stripe balance.
Receipts and invoices for payments are yours. Stripe can email your customer a receipt from your account; turn on customer emails in your Stripe settings. Our emails to your customer are order confirmations and order updates, never receipts or invoices.
9. Fees
Today Halaal takes no fee on your sales. You pay for Shop through your subscription, and Stripe charges you its own fees for card payments.
We may introduce a fee on card sales, or change it later. If we do, we will tell you by email and in your dashboard at least 30 days before it applies, with the amount, how it is worked out, how it is collected (deducted by Stripe from each card payment, before the rest reaches your balance) and what happens to it when you refund a sale. It applies only to payments made after that date. If you do not want to pay it, you can stop taking card payments, or close your shop, before it starts, at no cost.
The fee that applies to you, if any, is always shown in your shop’s payment settings. VAT is added to a fee where the law requires it.
10. Your customers’ data
For orders in your shop, you are the controller of your customers’ personal data, and Halaal is your processor. We use it only to run your shop for you: taking orders, emailing customers about them, payment, delivery and collection, and the order history. Our Data Processing Agreement covers this and forms part of these terms.
We also use some of that data for our own purposes, as a separate controller, as our Privacy Policy explains: keeping the platform secure, preventing fraud and abuse, meeting our own legal duties, and the emails we send to people who have a Halaal account.
For a card payment, we pass your customer’s email and the order’s items and total to your Stripe account, on your behalf, so that Stripe can take the payment and send your receipt. Stripe handles it as your provider, under your own agreement with Stripe, and for its own legal and anti-fraud duties. Stripe is not our subprocessor.
We show your customers a standard notice about how their order data is used to run your shop. Use their details only to fulfil their orders and as the law allows; do not send them marketing without their consent. If you use their data for anything more, telling them about it is yours to do.
While your shop exists, you can see and export your orders and the details your customers gave. We do not sell your sales data, and we do not use it to compete with you.
11. Review, pausing and closing
We review applications to sell and may ask for more information or refuse one, with our reason.
We may hide a product, pause your shop, or switch off card payments or a payment link if you break these terms, if we reasonably believe buyers are at risk (for example, orders not being fulfilled or a run of disputes), or if the law or Stripe requires it. We tell you why, in writing, when we do it or before.
If we decide to stop providing Shop to you altogether, we give you at least 30 days’ notice and our reasons, unless the law requires us to act sooner or you have seriously or repeatedly broken these terms; then we tell you our reasons without delay. If you disagree with a decision, reply to our email or write to support@halaal.app, and a person will look at it again.
You can stop selling, disconnect Stripe or close your shop at any time. Orders already placed stay yours to fulfil or refund.
12. Our responsibility to you
We provide the shop software with reasonable care and skill, but we do not promise it will always be available or free of errors. We are not responsible for your products, your sales, your customers’ payments, refunds, disputes or chargebacks, or for what Stripe or another provider does.
Our total liability to you under these terms in any 12 months is limited to the greater of what you paid us for Shop in the 12 months before the claim, or £100. We are not liable for lost profits, lost sales or indirect loss. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit.
You are responsible for claims against Halaal that arise from your products, your listings, your sales or your breach of these terms, including claims by your customers or by authorities, and you will cover our reasonable costs of them.
13. These terms
These terms add to the Halaal Terms of Service and the Data Processing Agreement, which still apply. If they differ about selling, these terms win.
We tell you about changes to these terms by email and in your dashboard at least 15 days before they apply (30 days for a new or higher fee), unless the law requires a change sooner. If you do not agree, you can stop selling before the change applies. For an important change, we may also ask you to accept the new version before you next publish your shop, change a payment link or connect payments.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts decide any dispute about them.
