Buying from a shop on Halaal
Version 2026-10-14 · 14 October 2026
In short:
- You are buying from the seller named in the shop, not from Halaal. Halaal provides the software the shop runs on.
- If you pay by card, Stripe takes the payment for the seller and the money goes straight to them. Any receipt comes from the seller.
- Returns, refunds and problems with an order go to the seller. Their contact details are on their Seller details page, linked from every page of the shop.
- An order you choose to pay by card and don’t pay within 24 hours lapses, and you are not charged.
- Your legal rights as a consumer are not affected.
1. Who you are buying from
Every shop on Halaal is run by a seller: a business, a sole trader or a charity selling as part of its work. The seller is named at the checkout (“Sold by…”) and on the shop’s Seller details page, with their address, contact details and any company, charity or VAT number. When you place an order, your contract for the sale is with that seller.
Halaal Inc LTD, a company registered in England and Wales (company no. 16055333), provides the software: the shop’s pages, the checkout, your order page and the emails about your order. Halaal is not a party to the sale.
2. Who does what
The seller sets their own prices, delivery, returns policy and terms of sale, and is responsible for the products, their descriptions, delivery or collection, refunds and returns, and your rights as a customer. Halal claims about a product are the seller’s: Halaal does not certify or inspect products.
Halaal checks a seller’s details and accepts their application before a shop opens, requires sellers to follow our seller terms, and can pause or close a shop that breaks them. If you think a shop is misleading or fraudulent, tell us at support@halaal.app.
3. Paying
By card. You pay on Stripe Checkout, a payment page run by Stripe on the seller’s own Stripe account. Your card details go to Stripe; Halaal never sees them and never receives, holds or moves your money. The seller’s name is the one on your statement. Shops on Halaal offer card and wallet payments only: no buy-now-pay-later, no interest and no late fees.
Any receipt or VAT invoice comes from the seller, usually by email through Stripe; ask the seller if you need one. Our email is an order confirmation, saying what you ordered and how it reaches you. It is not a receipt.
Another way. A seller may let you pay another way: on collection, by bank transfer or through their own payment link. You then pay the seller directly, on their terms, and Halaal takes no part in the payment.
Ordering from another country. If the seller sends your order from abroad, you may have to pay import VAT, customs duty or a handling fee when it arrives. These charges are between you, the seller and your country’s customs authority; the seller should tell you before you buy who pays them. Halaal does not collect or pay them.
4. If an order is not paid, or cannot go ahead
When you choose to pay by card, the items are held for you for 24 hours. If the payment isn’t completed by then, the order lapses: nothing is charged, the items go back on sale, and we email you to say so, with the seller’s contact details.
A seller may cancel an order. If they cancel before you have paid, the payment page closes and you cannot be charged.
Rarely, a payment may go through at the very moment an order lapses or is cancelled. If that happens, the payment is refunded to you in full, automatically, from the seller’s Stripe account, and we email you. Banks usually take 5 to 10 working days to show a refund.
5. Refunds, returns and problems
Contact the seller first: their details are on their Seller details page, linked from every page of the shop and from your order. Refunds are made by the seller, to the card you paid with. Your order page shows when an order has been refunded.
You can also dispute a card payment with your bank. If you do, your order shows “Disputed” while it is decided. A dispute is between you, the seller and your bank; Halaal cannot decide it.
Because Halaal never holds the money, we cannot refund you ourselves. If a seller doesn’t answer, tell us at support@halaal.app: we can contact them, and act against a shop that breaks our rules.
6. Your rights
Nothing here affects your legal rights. If you are a consumer in the UK and buy goods online, you can usually cancel within 14 days of receiving them, and goods must be as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose (Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013; Consumer Rights Act 2015). Some goods can’t be returned under the 14-day right, such as perishable food, made-to-order items, or sealed hygiene goods once opened. Consumers in the EU have similar rights. These rights are against the seller, who may offer more but never less.
7. Your data
The seller is responsible for the details you give with your order (the controller). Halaal keeps and uses them for the seller to run the shop: taking your order, emailing you about it, payment, delivery or collection, and your order history. Halaal also uses some of them for its own purposes: keeping the platform secure, preventing fraud and abuse, meeting its legal duties, and the emails it sends you if you have a Halaal account.
If you pay by card, your email and the order’s items and total are passed to the seller’s Stripe account so that Stripe can take the payment and send the seller’s receipt. This is needed to carry out the purchase you asked for. Your email is used for the receipt and updates about your order, never for marketing unless you agree to it.
How long order details are kept, and your rights, are in our Privacy Policy. For anything about the seller’s own use of your details, contact the seller; for ours, write to privacy@halaal.app.
8. About this page
This page explains how buying from a shop on Halaal works and what Halaal does. The seller may have their own terms of sale; they apply between you and the seller, and cannot take away your legal rights.
Halaal provides the shop software with reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for the seller’s products or for how the seller carries out the sale. Nothing here limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit. This page is governed by the law of England and Wales; if you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the law where you live and can bring a claim in your own courts.
